That's a lot of roots.
Nakimushi Mountain is located in Nikko. The hike starts from the station. From there, we'll hike through the mountain forest up to the first peak, Mt. Konosu at 842 meters. Here, we will have good views of surrounding mountains, such as Mt. Nyohosan(女峰山) and Mt. Nantai (男体山).
We'll continue to hike 1 more hour to the peak of Nakimushi. The trail gets more rugged at times as we pass through beechwood forests with lots of roots covering the ground. Once we get to the top, we can eat lunch on a wood deck while viewing the surrounding mountains. It should take us 2 1/2 hours to hike to the peak.
I could put more scenic, beautiful pictures of nature here, but I'll just put a picture of the steep, difficult part. Check out the links below to see more pictures of the hike.

Ganmangafuchi Abyss
A perfect spot to stop and take in the scenery.
Going down, we will take the Ganmangafuchi Abyss (含満淵). This will take 2 1/2 hours to get back to Tobu Nikko Station. The path down has some steeper slopes, so you'll need to use your leg muscles. It is a more difficult hike down, but it is more scenic as we hike the end of the trail along the rapid Daiya river.
There are also a large number of these Buddhist statues lining the hike. These statues are incredibly spooky. However, every February, they have a "Candle Pageant" where the Buddhist statues lining the road are lit up with candles.
We will finish our hike by passing the Shinkyo Sacred Bridge(神橋) which was originally built in 808 and is a World Heritage site.
