Want to try an easy mountain hike and see March plum trees blossom?
We'll start with a 95 minute train ride from Shinjuku to Mitake Station near Okutama. After a short bus trip, we will take a cable car up Mt. Mitake where Mitake Shrine and a small village are located. There is also a 20 minute side-path that goes to a 50-meter waterfall called Nanadainotaki. We will check this out.
After backtracking, we will hike up a ridge to the peak of Mt. Hinode where we will eat lunch. If the sky is clear, it should be a great view.
We'll then hike down to "Ume Koen" where there are over a thousand plum trees that will be in bloom.
From there, it is a short walk to Hinatawada train station.

Here is a Japanese blog with photos of the plum blossoms over the years.
